About BC Joint Health

BC Joint Health was born out of a shared passion between two family physicians determined to offer a new and innovative approach to managing mild to moderate knee arthritis. After witnessing countless patients struggle with chronic knee pain and feeling limited by traditional options—particularly surgery—we set out to create a better pathway.

Frustrated by the lack of accessible, non-surgical alternatives, we travelled to London, England, to train at the prestigious Brighton Medical School. There, we had the opportunity to learn from leading rehabilitation physicians and gain advanced expertise in ultrasound-guided Arthrosamid® injections—a cutting-edge treatment offering new hope for those living with arthritis.

Our clinic is built on the belief that people deserve more options when it comes to their joint health. Whether you’re looking to avoid surgery or seeking long-term relief through innovative care, we’re here to support your journey.

Meet Our Team

Dr. Smeeta Desai-Ranchod, MD

I am a medical graduate from South Africa and trained in Rheumatology with Dr. Kamran Shojania here in Vancouver in the capacity of a family physician. For the past 40 years I have helped patients manage their acute and chronic pain. I have witnessed the pain and debility from osteoarthritis, whether it be in the knees or any other joint. I’ve practiced trigger point injections to alleviate some of the muscle spasm associated with osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis causes joint damage and muscle weakness to various degrees, and many modalities of treatment are used to manage its effects.

When I heard of a new product, a hydrogel implant for osteoarthritis of the knees, I was intrigued and flew to London, England. I trained there with some of the best and well known Physicians at the Brighton Medical School to master ultrasound guided Arthrosamid injections into the knee.

At heart, I am still a family doctor, keenly seeking new ways to help patients manage their pain. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss the options of care for your knee osteoarthritis.

Dr. Gulaab Sara, MD

My name is Dr. Gulaab Sara and I am born and raised in Vancouver. I earned my MD and completed my Family Medicine residency at the University of British Columbia (South Fraser). My practice is grounded in holistic, preventive care with a special interest in musculoskeletal medicine.
I am excited to be among the first physicians in Western Canada to offer Arthrosamid—a single‑dose hydrogel injection for knee osteoarthritis that has Health Canada approval. Clinical trials demonstrate durable pain relief and functional improvement for up to three years, with an excellent safety profile, giving patients a minimally invasive option that can postpone or avoid surgery.

I received formal training in ultrasound‑guided joint injections at Brighton & Sussex Medical School (UK) and deliver the procedure in‑office under real‑time imaging for precision and comfort.
